A mutual fund is a collective investment scheme, which specializes in investing a pool of money collected from many investors for the purpose of investing in securities such as stocks, bonds, money market instruments, other mutual funds and similar assets. The AMC as fund manager is paid a management fee normally in the range of 1% to 3% per year calculated on the assets under management.

In order to promote investment and savings culture, Government of Pakistan offers tax credit on investments in Open-ended Mutual Funds, held for a period of two years, to salaried and non-salaried individuals. Section 62 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 provides tax credit to unit holders. The amount on which tax credit will be allowed shall be lower of a) the total cost of acquiring the units b) 20% of the taxable income of the Unit Holder c) Rs. 1,500,000
